Matty Doolin by Catherine Cookson (1997)
I read Matty Doolin by
Catherine Cookson. The main character is Matty who is fifteen years old, and he
is leaving school in a few weeks’ time. He wants to work with animals, but his
father wants him to get a job in ship-building. He can’t say his parents about
his work. He went camp with two friends as graduation memorial.
I’ll
write down one quotation and talk about camp’s incidents. The quotation: “Would
you like to see round farm?” he asked. (p.15) Mr. Walsh walked round the farm
with the boys, and he showed them all the animals and explained all the work of
the farm. Matty’s friend asked most of the questions, on the other hand, Matty didn’t
say anything and listened carefully to every word. He approached to his dream by
understanding the work of the farm. And he helped on the farm. Some incidents
happened during his camp, and he helped the work of farm without talking. Mr. Walsh
need help on the farm, and he likes him, and then he decided to give the work
on the farm. Matty felt happy.
By reading this book, I thought there are
someone who watching the act and it’s hard to tell quickly without talking. He didn’t
talk but he always acted something. And it led to his dream. I think it’s the
best way to act something to approach my dream and tell my idea and feeling.
