The Railway Children

The Railway Children

I read The Railway Children written by Edith Nesbit. This story is a drama about one family. The family has father, mother, and three children.

They had lived in London and had everything that they needed. One night, the father talked with the guest and the mother also listened it. When the mother backed to children’s bed room, her face was white.

A few days later, the father went away and the lest of family moved to the house near the railway. Their mother didn’t talk about her husband and she promised not to ask about him with her children. She looked unhappy. The house was cold and there is not much food. They spend there without their father and sometimes the children forgot their father.

The children often visited near the railway and shook hands toward the train. One day, one old gentleman shook hands toward the children. This man is the key person in this story.

When children’s mother was ill, the children made flag with the big letters, LOOK OUT AT THE STATION. The man noticed and received a letter from the child. The letter was written about her ill and what they need food. The man helped them.

When children find out the railway was covered with big rock, they told the train to stop by using red flag. They thanked for saving the train and many people. The old man gave each children watches because he was in the railway company.

One of children was thinking about her father, and found out the news that her father was suspected as a spy. Her mother said her husband didn’t. The children wrote the letter for the gentle man to help her father. The man promised with her.

One day, the girl went to the railway to shack hands again. On the day, everyone shook hands toward her. She thought stranger and visited the station. In the station, her father stood.

This story was happy and warm. The old gentle man was very nice to children. I was glad after reading because their father came back.

Operation Osprey

Operation Osprey

Last week, I read Operation Osprey written by David A. Hill. This story is about two fifteen boys, Don and Mike, who are bird watchers. They meet after school on Friday. I’ll tell you the happening they experienced.

They visited three small lakes surrounded by woods. Mike said he found Osprey. Osprey is a big hunting bird, which catches fish. They had never seen them before because ospreys had been hunted too much and people wanted the eggs for their collections and it is illegal. Two boys decided not to talk about osprey, but they told Don’s parents. They promised not tell anyone, however, his father told Mr. Robarts who works with Don’s father. Mr. Robert visited the lake to collect osprey’s egg. Don and Mike had a plan to prevent it, and started to ready lights and batteries, and then talked about it to a police man. Mr. Robart tried to get the egg with a young man at night, however, the moment he got the egg, the lights shines and the police man told to stop to do it. Two boys could protect ospreys.

This story was exited for me, and I think two boys’ action were great because they planned to catch the bad men and they achieved their goal. If you had interest, please check it!

Red Water

Red Water

I read Red Water written by Antoinette Moses. Two students who study geography are key persons in this story. I’ll tell you about it.

In the heart of equatorial Africa, there were the sound of a gun firing and a man’s body was thrown. The man with guns did his task.

In England, two students, Tricia and Daniel, had a project in her geography class. They became good friends through this class. They searched about the environment and discover that a local company could be involve in a sinister plot to trade carbon. She was upset because the company was her father’s. She went back to her home and entered her father’s room. Her father never allowed to into the room, but she did and searched his computer. There is information that her father made the Sweeper kill that man. She copied all the important files onto her memory stick. Her brother was in the house, and she talked about the files to him. They promised not to talk anyone else. Her brother, however, called his father and tell she found the all information and she and Daniel understood the company’s plot. Her father tried to kill them. Their lives are in danger. Daniel’s mother was dead because of an explosion. They felt dangerous, and go out together, but the Sweeper followed them.

Can they escape the dangerous situation? I was shocked her father tried to kill his daughter, and I can’t believe it. If you know your family was privy to a plot, what do you do? Please check this book ending yourself and enjoy reading!

The Garden Party and Sixpence

The Garden Party and Sixpence

I read The Garden Party and Sixpence. This book has information about Katherine Mansfield, the author, glossary, T or F questions, and so on. It is like textbook, so it’s easy to read and understand.

This book has two stories. I’ll introduce one of them, The Garden Party. This story’s main character is Launa who is a daughter of a middle-class family. She was looking forward to the garden party which her mother held annual. On the day’s morning, she had breakfast at the garden with her family, and then she looked at four men and was attracted by working men. One of them was pale. She backed to her house to ready the party. Before starting the party, she heard a neighboring workman has died. The news made her sad and she thought we should cancel our party. Her family is wealth, so they can do everything they want to do, but she hesitated it because she respects workmen. The party was held, however, after the party, she decided to visit the man’s house to send the basket. When she looked the lying man, she sobbed and left the house. Her brother came to the house because he worried about her. She was crying and try life, but she tried explaining what life is, but she couldn’t express.

This story showed the difference between the girl’s house and the workman. The difference was written by the atmosphere, feelings, and color. I thought this girl had lived without difficulties because of her rich life, but through this experience, she understood the existence of poor families and hard workers.
