As
the Inspector Said and other stories
Today, I read As the Inspector Said and other stories. This
book has five mystery stories, As the Inspector Said, The Man Who Cut
Off My Hair, The Railway Crossing, The Blue Cross, and Cash on
Delivery. I will introduce one my recommendation,
My recommendation is The Man Who Cut Off
My Hair. This is Judith Lee’s story. She is a teacher of lip-read. Her
mother is deaf, so lip-reading has always been part of her life. This story is
about one happening when she was thirteen years. When she was returning home by
train, there were two people sitting opposite her. Two people were talking about
their plan to steal silver quietly, but she could read their lips. She went to
the place which two people visited and they recognized her. She was tied and
cut off her hair. After she was found out, she said the place name that two men
said words when they left the place. She looked for them with inspectors to say
‘That’s the man who cut off my hair!’.
I thought she has wonderful skill because she
can understand talks only lips moving. Maybe I can’t do it. Some people who is
deaf is important to use lip-reading, however, now we wear masks, so I think some
people is difficult to understand talking without lip-reading.
